Propranolol is supposed to be taken only by people diagnosed with high blood pressure or some other related conditions. It works by relaxing the blood vessels and normalizing your blood flow. Although this drug is well tolerated (and often prescribed for lifetime treatment) it may sometimes have side effects that you need to be aware of. The following side effects are sometimes possible: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, decreased sex drive, tired feeling, constipation, sleep problems, and stomach cramps. If this is your first time taking propranolol and you get the symptoms mentioned - watch them attentively until they disappear. If they persist or get bothersome - make sure you report them to your doctor. Let your health care provider know if you are taking other high blood pressure meds, reserpine, painkillers, cough and cold medicines, asthma meds, allergies medications, vitamins, heart disease medications, or medications for migraine headaches, as some of them can interact with propranolol making it less efficient. Some medical conditions you have may affect the dose you are prescribed. Let your health care provider know if you have or used to have thyroid disorder, low blood pressure, problems with circulation, breathing disorders, diabetes, liver or kidney disease, heart block, depression, or congestive heart failure.
